Letter from the Provincial

Dear Friends,

VERY FEW PEOPLE SAY, “I WILL PUT THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD ABOVE MY OWN, SO THAT THEY MAY KNOW GOD’S LOVE, GOD’S MERCY AND GOD’S COMPASSION.”

EACH OF THESE MEN HAS SAID, “I WILL PUT THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE MY OWN, SO THEY MAY KNOW JESUS CHRIST.” I THANK THESE MEN FOR THEIR PROFOUND GENEROSITY.

- Very Rev. Karl J. Kiser, SJ

On June 8, six Midwest Jesuits were ordained by the Most Rev. Robert J. Fisher, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit, at Church of the Gesu on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee. It was a joyous occasion!

In my remarks following the Ordination Mass, I said to those assembled that while the Jesuits formed these new priests over the 10 or 12 years of studies, their formation began long before they came to us.

A debt of gratitude is owed to the people these men encountered in their lives at school, at work, with friends, and especially at home with their parents. That is where their lives in ministry began.

We owe a debt of gratitude as well to those whose gifts made today’s Jesuits possible. When the men in these pages answered God’s call and entered the novitiate, the doors were open and the lights were on. Jesuits were waiting to meet them because generous benefactors made it possible.

I thank you for your support of the Jesuits, and I ask that you pray especially for these men as their ongoing work in the vineyard takes a new direction.

Yours in Christ,

V. Rev. Karl J. Kiser, SJ
