MAG+S MIDWEST Offers Ignatian Spirituality to Young Adults
This summer, Fr. Paul Shelton, SJ, gathered 50 young people for MAG+S Midwest as part of the global movement in the Society of Jesus that brings together young adults for immersive experiences of Ignatian spirituality, community, service and fun.
Participants came from Jesuit universities, Chicago parishes, and parts of Kentucky and Oklahoma.
Besides break-out discussions, Eucharistic adoration and Mass, activities included a hiking pilgrimage in southeast Wisconsin, service to the urban poor in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood, care for the elderly in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, and care for creation at an eco-justice farm in Terra Haute, Ind.
Father Shelton, the Midwest Province’s provincial assistant for vocations, was assisted by Jesuit Fathers Thomas Bambrick, Stan Czarnecki, Eric Immel, Edmund Lo, Aaron Malnick, Michael Rossmann and Marc-André Veselovsky; and several Jesuits in formation, including Emmanuel Arenas, Noah Banasiewicz, Philip Cooley, Alexander Hale, Justin Prom, Josef Rodriguez and Sean Teets.
The Jesuits were also joined by representatives of several women’s religious groups, including Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Franciscans of the Eucharist, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Little Sisters of the Poor.
