Call to the Priesthood: “Thank you” seems inadequate to the abundance of blessings I have received from God throughout my life. First, thanks go to my parents and brother, whose constant love and support have buoyed me through good and challenging times alike. I could never fully express what you mean to me. Then, to the rest of my many family and friends, those living and deceased, who have helped raise and form me into who I am today, thank you for your wisdom and joy. I also thank all those who ignited and helped tend my faith, especially during high school and in my college years at Creighton University, introducing me to the beauty of Catholicism and the Jesuit charism within it. Since entering the Society of Jesus, my Jesuit brothers have been one of the greatest gifts I have received. With them, I have grown in freedom, love of God and love of others in ways I never could have imagined. I now know what having Jesuit “friends in the Lord” truly means and how profoundly consoling it is. Finally, I express my deep gratitude for all those whom I have met in ministry and studies through my various stages of Jesuit formation. They have taught me in so many ways what it means to be a Jesuit, how God is with us in this world, and how we are invited to be co-workers with God to “help souls,” as St. Ignatius would have us do.
